MUSIC / GUIDE
Afro-oriented programmes can foreground layered rhythms, percussion and vocal groove. Afrobeats and Afro house describe different musical directions, so the broad label should not be treated as one sound. Specific descriptions and the performers' recordings are better guides.
The first edition of Chitei VINTAGE SERIES is built around the venue’s ALTEC system. GENKI, ARAI, and SHOCHANG select music under an afro-focused theme. It is a chance to hear that musical direction through vintage speakers.
A night at Asagaya DRIFT marking Day 2 of theoretic's Japan gigs. The announced DJ direction centers on contemporary Afro and deep house, alongside edits. It is suited to listeners who want to settle into a deep, groove-led set.
WREP’s first-Saturday session brings together DJ K.DA.B, DJ JUSTY, and DJ FUJIMARU. The music spans hip-hop, R&B, reggae, Latin, and afrobeats. It is an early-evening entry point into a broad Black-music-focused dancefloor.
UPTOWN FRIDAY begins after midnight on the second floor of Shibuya's OR. Guest Liberty arrives from Osaka for a night spanning dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, trap, R&B, soca, and afro. It is a bass-forward dance session built to run deep into the night.
